In this video, Judy Ann C. Mejorada-Wenceslao, the first EU CopPhil scholar, shares her experience as she advances her expertise through a Master’s degree at the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences, specialising in photogrammetry, geoinformatics, and Earth observation. Her studies are equipping her with skills in land cover analysis, benthic mapping, and ground movement monitoring, which are relevant for environmental management and disaster risk reduction.

Following four training sessions delivered in 2025 and early 2026, the CopPhil Technical Assistance (TA) component conducted an additional Local Government Unit (LGU) training in Cebu City (Region VII) from 2 to 5 March 2026. The course forms part of a broader series of thirteen training packages designed primarily for LGUs.

On 13-14 March 2026, CopPhil participated in ENGenium 2026, an annual event hosted by the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers – De La Salle University (DLSU) at the DLSU Taft Avenue campus in Manila. The event brought together students and young professionals from across disciplines, providing CopPhil a valuable opportunity to engage with one of the country’s most active university communities.

Judy Ann C. Mejorada-Wenceslao, a staff member of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) in Davao was awarded the first EU CopPhil Scholarship. She will pursue a Master’s degree in Photogrammetry and Geoinformatics at the Stuttgart Technical University of Applied Sciences in Germany, starting in the summer semester of 2026.

On 26 January 2026, the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA), the European Union Delegation to the Philippines, and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) convened the third Steering Committee meeting of the EU-funded National Copernicus Capacity Support Action Programme for the Philippines (CopPhil).

CopPhil will be participating in the Philippine Space Week Exhibit. The event will take place from 8 to 10 August at Gateway Mall in Araneta City, Cubao. 

From 28 to 31 July 2025, Local Government Units (LGUs) and other sub-national stakeholders in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) will gather in Baguio City for a 4-day hands-on training on Earth Observation (EO), GIS, and the use of Copernicus data for disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, and natural resource management.

From 23 to 27 June 2025, CopPhil representatives joined the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Living Planet Symposium (LPS) 2025, one of the world’s largest Earth Observation (EO) conferences.

On 29 May and 19 June 2025, we hosted a series of practical training sessions dedicated to our Earth Observation-based pilot service on forest mapping.

On 3 and 5 June 2025, we hosted a series of practical training sessions at the Philippine Space Agency’s premises in Manila, covering our Earth Observation-based pilot service dedicated to benthic habitat monitoring.

In May 2025, we hosted a 2-day practical session of the Earth Observation-based pilot service dedicated to crop mapping.

On 10 February 2025, the CopPhil Centre hosted its first hybrid training course, bringing together over 40 in-person participants and over 140 online participants to learn about the CopPhil pilot service dedicated to land cover monitoring.

On 4 December 2024, the Technical Assistance team of the EU Copernicus programme in the Philippines participated in the 24-hour “telemapathon” organised by the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) under the theme Map, Give, Impact.

On 29 November 2024, the CopPhil Technical Assistance participated in an information session on space technology and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management for students of the Ateneo de Manila University.

On 25 November 2024, the CopPhil Centre under the EU Copernicus programme in the Philippines successfully hosted its first training course, bringing together over 80 participants from government agencies, academia, and other sectors in the Philippines.

On 17 October 2024, Filipino and EU representatives and partners of CopPhil had the honour of unveiling the first results of the Centre’s activities at the ‘First Light’ inaugural event in Manila.

On 11 October 2024, the CopPhil Centre hosted an online Co-Creation Workshop, bringing together 19 participants from eight key Philippine institutions to discuss their needs in terms of use of Earth Observation data and services in the country.
