Are you a Filipino Earth Observation (EO) or Remote Sensing (RS) specialist with a strong commitment for environmental protection and disaster risk reduction, looking for the next challenge? Are you already working for the government on these topics and want to broaden your expertise? The EU CopPhil Scholarship programme might be for you!

The European Union’s (EU) Copernicus programme, and CopPhil, a flagship initiative of the EU’s Global Gateway Strategy, is proud to announce the launch of the EU CopPhil Scholarship Programme for advanced studies in Earth Observation and Remote Sensing, implemented by a Stantec-led consortium.

Fully sponsored by the EU, this programme is open to Filipino citizens working in government agencies, including the Philippines Space Agency (PhilSA), the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DSHUD), the Department of Agriculture (DA), and the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA).

With a focus on climate change, natural resources, and disaster management, the programme is designed for individuals committed to pursuing a master’s degree in EO/RS. Aligned with the EU’s priorities in green economy, education, and digital infrastructure, this scholarship aims to boost the use of Copernicus data to improve governance and policymaking in the Philippines.

Programme Highlights

  • Study Duration: September 2025 – July 2027 (24 months)
  • Financial Package: up to €33,500[1] covering tuition, visas, airfare, allowances, accommodation, and insurance
  • Host Institutions: Choose from pre-selected European universities offering EO/RS courses (deadline: 19 January 2025) or propose other reputable EU Member States universities (see: https://master-cde.eu/).
  • Eligibility: Full details on eligibility and documents are available on the CopPhil website.

Note: The scholarship covers costs up to €33,500; additional expenses are the applicant’s responsibility.

Application Process

  1. Secure University Admission: Meet the institution’s admission requirements and obtain acceptance.
  2. Submit Scholarship Application: After securing admission, submit your scholarship application.

Important updates:

  • Extended Deadline: Applications are now open until 18 March 2025 – remember: to apply for the EU CopPhil Scholarship Programme, you must have been selected by a university for a master’s programme in EO/RS.
  • Be Prepared! If your university acceptance arrives close to the deadline, have your application ready in advance—just add your admission confirmation and send it over!
  • Interview Date: The top three shortlisted applicants will be interviewed on 28 March 2025 – book the date! Shortlisted candidates will be notified a few days in advance.
  • Act Fast! As soon as you receive your confirmation of acceptance, submit your application without delay to eucopphil.scholarship@copphilta.eu
  • Alternative Study Options: While applications for the three pre-identified universities closed on 19 January 2025, you may still apply to other EU Member State universities offering EO/RS programmes.
