About the Ideathon

In November 2025, the Philippines will host the Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF) and the 11th Asia-Pacific Space Generation Workshop (AP-SGW).

In support of these landmark events, Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC), in collaboration with the European Union Delegation to the Philippines and the European Space Agency (ESA), hosts the EU-Copernicus Youth Challenge, an ideathon which empowers youth to turn Earth Observation (EO) insights into actionable and scalable solutions.

Participants from the Philippines and neighbouring Asia-Pacific countries will develop cross-cutting proposals which combine policy design with practical implementation strategies within one unified competition.

Using Copernicus and CopPhil data and services, teams will address regional challenges across three tracks:

  • Climate Resilience
  • Marine and Coastal Management
  • Urban Planning and Smart Cities

Challenge Format

Each team must deliver an integrated concept combining:

  • A policy mechanism (e.g., new regulations, governance models, institutional tools); and
  • A sustainable implementation model (e.g., public-private collaboration, social enterprise, commercial application)

Follow the teams’ progress and explore their innovative ideas on the DoraHacks platform.

CopPhil's Role

By opening access to Copernicus data and providing mentorship from its expert network, CopPhil helps participants turn satellite information into solutions for real policy challenges. Through this involvement, the ideathon becomes a platform for demonstrating how Earth Observation data can inform better decisions in the Philippines and across ASEAN.

In fact, each proposed solution must integrate Copernicus and/or CopPhil data or services, such as ground motion monitoring, land cover mapping, coastal marine ecosystems monitoring, to enable meaningful outcomes in one of the ideathon’s three tracks.
