Monitoring Benthic Habitats across the Philippines with CopPhil
CopPhil’s Benthic Habitat Monitoring Service combines Copernicus Sentinel satellite data with in situ observations provided by Filipino partners to generate detailed and accurate coastal habitat information. Using Copernicus Sentinel-2 optical satellite imagery at 10 m spatial resolution, the service has produced two products which support coastal ecosystem monitoring, conservation planning, and evidence-based decision-making.

In this video, Judy Ann C. Mejorada-Wenceslao, the first EU CopPhil scholar, shares her experience as she advances her expertise through a Master’s degree at the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences, specialising in photogrammetry, geoinformatics, and Earth observation. Her studies are equipping her with skills in land cover analysis, benthic mapping, and ground movement monitoring, which are relevant for environmental management and disaster risk reduction.
Local Government Unit Training in Cebu City
Following four training sessions delivered in 2025 and early 2026, the CopPhil Technical Assistance (TA) component conducted an additional Local Government Unit (LGU) training in Cebu City (Region VII) from 2 to 5 March 2026. The course forms part of a broader series of thirteen training packages designed primarily for LGUs.
